Importing Your Podcast from Another Host

Thinking of moving your podcast to Yellowball? Great choice. It's quick, straightforward, and you’ll pick up right where you left off.

This guide will walk you through the whole process — from importing your feed to making sure your listeners come with you.

Before you get started, we recommend reviewing the RSS Feed Prep Checklist. It covers common issues like hidden emails and locked feeds that can block an import.

Step 1: Get Your Current RSS Feed URL

First, grab your RSS feed from your current podcast host.

Most platforms display this under settings or "distribution". It usually looks something like:

https://feeds.yourprovider.com/123456.rss

Make sure the feed is active and publicly available.

Step 2: Start the Import in Yellowball

  1. Log into your Yellowball dashboard
  2. Click Import Show
  3. Paste in your RSS feed
  4. Click Import Show
  5. Click Send Verification Email and Continue
  6. Check your email, and paste the validate URL into your browser.

Yellowball will copy over your show title, description, artwork, and all published episodes.

Depending on how many episodes you have, this may take a few minutes. You’ll see progress on the All Shows page.

⚠️ Possible Import Issues

  • Hidden Email: Some hosts hide your email address from your feed. If so, you’ll see an error after step 5. If you see the error below, follow our email guide to make your feed import-ready. Feed missing email error
  • Locked Feed: Some podcast hosts lock your RSS feed to prevent it from being imported. If you see the error below, follow our unlocking guide to make your feed accessible. Feed is locked error

We’ve put together a quick RSS Feed Prep Checklist that covers these issues (and a few others) in more detail.

If you run into any hiccups, we’re happy to help. You can either open a support ticket or send us an email, and we’ll walk you through the process.

Step 3: Verify and Update Your Show

Once the import is complete:

  • Double check your show details (artwork, description, categories, etc.)
  • Update any links or text that reference your old host
  • Add a custom domain (optional, but recommended)

Step 4: Set a Redirect from Your Old Host

To avoid losing subscribers, set a 301 redirect from your old feed to your new Yellowball feed. This tells podcast apps to automatically follow your new feed without requiring your listeners to resubscribe.

Most podcast hosts offer a way to configure this in your account settings.

Check out our Redirecting Your Podcast Feed guide for step-by-step instructions by provider.
If your host isn't listed yet, open a support ticket and we’ll help you out.

It’s best to keep the redirect active for at least 2–4 weeks.

Step 5: Confirm Everything Is Working

Once you've completed the import and set up your redirect, it's a good idea to verify that everything is working as expected:

  • Open your old RSS feed in a browser — it should forward to your Yellowball feed
  • Use a tool like Podbase to check your new feed
  • Make sure your episodes appear correctly in apps like Apple Podcasts and Spotify
